Alexander Corfu S.A. is developing a landmark eco-luxury resort in Barbati Beach, Corfu, with a strong focus on circular economy, resource efficiency, blue growth and sustainable tourism. The project holds a large interest in two prime pieces of land. These lands have existing buildings that will be fully renovated and transformed into luxury accommodations with optimal carbon efficiency and significantly improved water, energy and materials use, boosting resource efficiency.

Following a successful EPC tender process with an international joint venture, construction works for Phase A have already begun. SPOROS is helping to bring advanced circular solutions to construction, resource management and operations. This includes using eco-friendly materials in addition to innovative energy storage systems and top-tier water management technologies.

This strategic investment combines development and renovation in a high-value tourist location, aiming to capitalize on the growing demand for luxury accommodations, with a focus on maximizing investor returns through optimal asset utilization and market positioning, in an island with strong growth prospects, extended & diversified season period, significant international connectivity as well as comparable lack of high-end sustainable hospitality infrastructure.

The project aims to redefine sustainable hospitality in Greece by providing premium eco-friendly accommodations and amenities for global travelers, designed to ensure sustainability while enhancing the resort's international appeal in the competitive luxury tourism market.. It boosts local value chains while meeting Barbati's regional needs, competitive advantages and geographical particularities, in alignment with SPOROS Smart Specialisation Strategy. The business model is scalable and can be replicated in the tourism industry. With a comprehensive Circular Transition Plan, Alexander Corfu combines deep environmental commitment and climate resilience with commercial and financial viability. The investment exemplifies SPOROS’ vision of embedding circularity into hard asset development while unlocking strong financial returns.

Circular Economy Impact:

Alexander Corfu sets a top example for circularity in tourism and construction. It renovates existing buildings to cut down on carbon and waste. The project uses modular design along with local and recyclable materials and plans for lasting infrastructure. Circular practices also continue during operation with smart waste management and water reuse systems. Regenerative landscaping and renewable energy generation and storage are key parts. These efforts lower resource use and boost local supply chains. They aid Greece's move towards a circular and climate-ready economy.
