George Kofinakos, based in London, is a seasoned Senior Advisor at Alvarez & Marsal with over three decades of rich experience in the fields of Banking, Project Finance, and Capital Markets. His expertise lies in Debt & Liability management, Securitisation, Equity & Debt Raising, Hedging Efficiency within Financial Institutions and Corporations, and Balance Sheet Restructuring. George has successfully served a diverse clientele encompassing Sovereigns, Supranationals, Financial Institutions, Corporations, and Maritime Companies.
Before joining Alvarez & Marsal, George Kofinakos spent 12 years at StormHarbour LLP in London, where he held the positions of Managing Director and Senior Advisor. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in advising a European Supranational on the consolidation of Greece's Financial System, with his team executing over $2 billion in Maritime, Equity, and Debt raising endeavors.
Simultaneously, George served as the CEO of a Renewable Energy Private Equity Fund in Luxembourg, spearheading the development of more than 500 MW of renewable energy projects in South-Eastern Europe and Japan.
His extensive 20-year tenure with Citigroup in Greece and London saw him hold various executive roles, including CEO of Citigroup Global Markets, Managing Director of Capital Markets and Banking, Treasurer, and Senior Government Banker. He was instrumental in overseeing numerous Monetisation Offerings (IPO, M&A, etc.), Infrastructure Projects (PPP and PPI), and Integrated Custody, Securities, and Liquidity Solutions. George also actively participated in several committees, including the European Capital Markets and the European and Global Public Sector Group Committees. He played a key role in establishing the Debt and Liability Management in Greece (PDMA) during his time on the Primary Dealers Steering Committee.
Beyond his financial career, George Kofinakos serves as the Chairman of the Investment Committee for Sporos Platform, an innovative fund promoting Circular Economy implementation in Greek SMEs. Additionally, he holds a non-executive Board position at 'New Agriculture-New Generation,' an initiative aimed at empowering youth in the agricultural sector, supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
George's academic background includes a bachelor's degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Piraeus, complemented by a Master of Business Administration from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Notably, he currently serves as a Distinguished Executive in Residence at Rutgers. Furthermore, George is a Member of the Academic Council at the Athens Graduate Economics & Business University. As a Greek national, he is proficient in English.
